Story

Pike and crew track a distress signal to a planet known as Talos 4. They find an old crew and a beautiful woman (surprise) living on the surface, awaiting rescue for 18 years – but they turn out to be an illusion. Pike is captured and caged underground by a telepathic race who have set him up with the beauty to make some babies. Only through sheer force of will is Pike able to resist; by focusing all of his energy on raw hatred, he is able to block out the Talosians’ mind-reading abilities. His constant and total refusal to comply helps to convince his captors that humans are too willful to serve them, and that said captors as a race must fall to extinction: after having given up on real life in favor of enjoying their power of illusion, they cannot remember how to maintain their technologies, and they’re all apparently already dying.
